Words Worth: Outer Story

For generations, a massive stone tablet called Words Worth has held together an uneasy peace between the surface-dwelling humans of the Light Tribe and the part-human, part-animal beings of the Shadow Tribe underground. Nobody can read what's written on it, but everyone agrees it matters. Then it gets destroyed, and suddenly both sides are blaming each other for a war that's about to span a century. That's the world Words Worth Gaiden drops you into. At the center of it is Astral, a Shadow Tribe prince who wants to prove himself as a swordsman but keeps getting blocked at every turn — by his father, by his own standing, and by a fiancée from the Light Tribe who has very specific ideas about what she wants in a partner. The world-building here is genuinely interesting: two civilizations with different biology, different lifestyles, and a shared history that's fracturing in real time. If you've seen something like Bible Black or La Blue Girl, you already know the Arms studio approach — action and fantasy wrapped around mature content, not the other way around. This is a 2-episode OVA adapted from a visual novel, so it's compact and moves fast. It's not trying to be subtle about what it is, but if you go in knowing that, the conflict and character dynamics actually give it more substance than you'd expect from something this short.
