For generations, bitter enemy factions — the Light and Shadow tribes — have been tearing each other apart over a shattered stone tablet said to hold the secrets of the universe. That's already a solid fantasy setup, but Words Worth gets more interesting once you zoom in on the Shadow side, where the real drama is brewing. Astral, the arrogant heir to the Shadow throne, is engaged to Sharon, a genuinely skilled warrior. Sharon, however, keeps finding herself drawn to Caesar, the tribe's most respected swordsman. So you've got a faction war on the outside and a slow-burn love triangle with real political consequences on the inside — and the two storylines feed into each other in ways that actually feel earned. Don't go in expecting a straightforward hack-and-slash romp. For a 5-episode adult OVA from 1999, this puts in real work on its world-building — rival elemental factions, ancient lore, JRPG-style mythology — and the late-90s cel animation gives it a gritty atmosphere that suits the tone well. If you've watched something like Kuroinu or Dragon Knight and wished the story had more weight to it, this is worth a look. It sits closer to dark sword-and-sorcery fantasy than pure shock content, adapted from a classic visual novel by Arms studio. The adult elements are present, but the political intrigue and character motivations give you an actual reason to follow the story rather than just skip around.
