Synopsis

Meet Nico Wakatsuki — a cheerful young witch whose spells have a habit of going sideways, sometimes literally. Her childhood friend Morihito Otogi, a stoic high schooler who happens to descend from a line of ogres, is stuck with the job of being her familiar and protector. She moves in with him, and from there it's a steady stream of magical accidents, awkward cohabitation moments, and the looming threat of some vaguely prophesied calamity that Morihito is supposed to shield her from. This second season picks up right where the first left off, keeping the same easygoing rhythm of comedy and low-stakes supernatural chaos. One of the things that actually sets Witch Watch apart is how magic works here — Nico casts spells by drawing runes, which gives the whole system a tactile, creative feel instead of the usual point-and-shoot approach. The dynamic between her and Morihito lands somewhere between protective older brother and exhausted babysitter, and it's genuinely funny without leaning too hard on romantic tension. If you liked the cozy magical vibe of Little Witch Academia or the familiar-master setup in The Familiar of Zero but wanted something more grounded in everyday life, this fits that niche well. Yuka Kitamura's soundtrack adds a lot of warmth to the whole thing. It's comfort food anime — light, charming, and easy to settle into on a weeknight.
