Sharp-minded and hungry for controversy, Mikimoto is a high school student who stands out for all the wrong reasons. Too clever for the standard school newspaper, he starts his own underground publication — and instead of chasing real stories, he manufactures them. His target is Nanase, a popular classmate, and his weapon is words. He carefully crafts provocative pieces designed to twist how the other guys at school see her, stoking resentment and desire in equal measure until the tension becomes something he can no longer fully control. The whole thing is less about journalism and more about watching someone treat real people like variables in an experiment. That's the uncomfortable core of it. Mikimoto is the kind of character who's fascinating to watch precisely because he's genuinely unpleasant — calculating, detached, and convinced he's above consequences. The story leans into that psychological manipulation angle harder than you might expect from a 2-episode OVA. If you've watched something like Kite or Bible Black and appreciated how those pushed into darker, more unsettling territory rather than playing it safe, Bad End operates in a similar space. It's tense, it's provocative, and it doesn't really let the audience get comfortable. Based on a visual novel and produced by Y.O.U.C back in 2002, it's rough around the edges in places, but the setup has a genuine noir-ish quality to it — a story about power, manipulation, and what happens when someone engineers a situation they thought they had figured out.
