Ukiyodoko
Oshimeter
Synopsis
"Ukiyodoko" is an animated film derived from the rakugo storytelling piece of the same name. The narrative centers on Hanzo, the protagonist, who engages in boastful conversations with his friends, mirroring the enduring human tendency for social interaction. The film visually juxtaposes communication methods across different eras, specifically the Edo period and the present day. This stylistic choice serves to emphasize the core theme: the "interchange between the transient and the immutable." The film explores how human nature, particularly the enjoyment of casual and often inconsequential conversations among companions, remains consistent across time. The animation was created as a Graduate Work in 2012 by Kazuya Karasawa from Tokyo University of the Arts.
