Damn I did not expect the turn with shinohara's quinque, the saddening reveal could have definitely taken up more breathing room though, it brought back some of season 1's charm and intrigue, but the episode didn't focus much on it.

Damn, I didn't expect Shachi or his involvement with Rize, whose mystery deepens every time she is mentioned. His reaction to Kaneki's smell was valid, but still felt like injustice/misunderstanding since Kaneki isn't even able to explain why he has Rize's scent.

The scenes showing Amon's past and the 'father' of his orphanage really helped explain his strained feeling towards ghouls, and why he reacted so strongly to Kaneki's interaction with him earlier. It does quite a bit of character work and doesn't leave him as one-dimensional.
