This is a visually and emotionally devastating finale. The main emotional core of this episode is Hide’s tragic death; this heartbreaking loss teaches us that true acceptance requires vulnerability rather than isolation. Kaneki pushed everyone away so he could gain the power to protect them, but this same isolation prevented him from protecting the one person he cared about the most, which is his friend Hide. The soundtrack also goes well with the soul-crushing finale.

The finale feels suitable for the anime plot and everything that happened in a "blitz" pacing fashion. It really pulled off the bittersweet feeling of loss within all the main characters, and the lack of meaning in the "justice" being carried out between humans and ghouls.

What the hay, Hide didn't even play a significant role in the story and it feels like they kept him around to kill him off for a grand finale. What the episode did with Touka was also very cruel 🙁🙁 She ran just to see her home be destroyed and allat

Kaneki and Hide's talk in the beginning was something I didn't know I needed to see, it felt so fitting that I was shocked I didn't think about that earlier. The constant flashbacks during their talk made the first season feel so long ago

Anime original ending that does not pay respect to source material. Best to read the original manga.

One of the most stupid anime changes from the manga. Skipped probably one of the most long awaited fights in the series but instead got a long walk session and slideshows of aftermaths. Trying to get you in the feels but was an absolute letdown.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming directly after the large-scale battles and decisive confrontations of 'Deluge of Flowers' in episode 11, this finale shifts entirely into emotional aftermath territory, processing the weight of everything the season has built toward. As the twelfth and final episode of √A, 'Ken' serves as the closing statement for this original-route adaptation, wrapping the season's themes of belonging and sacrifice. It also functions as a narrative bridge to Tokyo Ghoul:re, leaving viewers with unresolved psychological threads that the continuation picks up.
