Nene and Kou share a quiet episode that really highlight the growing stakes and how deeply they’ve become involved with supernatural conflicts. Nice episode!

The episode is about the role of a reaper and the sacrifice connected to that duty. As the truth is revealed, the situation becomes more emotional and serious.

When Mitsuba noticed that Kou was troubled and confronted him about it, he showed signs that he was worried about him. This was a heartwarming scene to me because it shows that Kou has become an important person to Mitsuba ever since the incident from the 1st part of season two.

Episode Context

Coming off Episode 2's exploration of the blurring boundary between the near shore and the far shore, Episode 3 escalates that tension by bringing the Sixth Mystery, Shinigami-sama, into sharper focus, raising the stakes around sacrifice and the cost of crossing between worlds. Positioned early in this 12-episode run, it functions as a critical pivot point that transitions the narrative toward the revelations expected in the upcoming 'Sumire' arc. This is where the season shifts from establishing its supernatural framework to actively testing the characters within it.
