Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Haunting the girls' bathroom on Kamome Academy's third floor, a ghost named Hanako-kun carries a mischievous streak and a hidden past. Nene Yashiro is the lovesick high schooler who accidentally bound herself to him. Together they deal with the school's Seven Wonders; supernatural phenomena rooted in Japanese folklore that keep bleeding into the real world. Season 2 picks up with a new problem: there's a mysterious clock hidden somewhere in the academy that controls the flow of time, watched over by three keepers tied to past, present, and future. When something goes wrong, students start aging rapidly and the school literally begins falling apart around them. Nene, Hanako-kun, and their friend Kou Minamoto have to track down whoever broke things before it gets worse. The thing that makes this show stick is the art, Lerche leans hard into this vivid, almost storybook visual style with bold outlines and rich colors that you don't really see anywhere else. And underneath the playful humor and cute character moments, there's genuine emotional weight to Hanako's backstory and the relationships between the leads. If you liked the ghost romance vibes of Tasogare Otome x Amnesia or the supernatural school setting of Kemono Jihen, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's also got that same balance of comedy and heart you find in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, just with more folklore and fewer delusions. Twelve episodes, and the pacing stays tight throughout.

Season 2 starts with a new supernatural mystery at Kamome Academy. It quickly brings back the series’ mix of humor, eerie moments, and emotional tension between Hanako, Nene, and Kou.
Never been so happy at the end of a series! Yashiro and Hanako's talk was a long time coming, and I'm glad it was done in a way that doesn't undermine their characters at all. It was a very satisfying watch overall, and I'm excited to delve on the next seasons ahead!
What an amazing climax that really wraps up Shijima Mei's true dream. The pacing has gone better for this episode in particular, which is a relief. It's heartwarming how both of them reconcile despite the difference in their perspectives due to the rumors.
An exciting, heart-wrenching development! Yashiro finds herself at a conflict, but still remains so true to what her heart desires - which is to return to the real world. The pacing feels a little rushed at some parts, as if the scenes quickly change moods, but it's still quite acceptable given the characters present.
This episode has a well-thought out pace on how Yashiro should figure out the answer to her dilemma, as well as the raising the tension with how far Shijima Mei's powers actually extend in this fictional world. That twist at the end that loops back to Hanako's true desire feels heavy in the heart. There's so many things that really hinge on this arc, its quite exciting to see how it all unfolds.
The contrast between Yashiro and Kou's encounters with their pairs Hanako/Amane and Mitsuba (respectively) is just so heartbreaking to watch. But it highlights how important their own ideals are to themselves. The soundtrack really adds to the tension and despair that Mitsuba personally feels.
The tension rises as things start falling into the right place. Shijima Mei drives a real hard bargain on the condition she presents to Yashiro and Kou, which understandably upsets our two lovely and kind characters. Definitely not an episode to miss - it contains a lot of important context for whats to come.
One thing TBHK excels a lot is leading the feelings of the viewer in the right places just by showing how perceptive certain characters are, specifically Yashiro. I like that the scenes look so happy, and yet you can't shake off the feel that something might just be wrong. It's really one of the best charms this series offers.
Really loved the fun twist behind the Zombie Mokke invasion! I also find it supsr cute to see more interaction between Teru and Yashiro, considering the latter really likes him. The end of the episode likely teases a new development to come to our little protagonist team!
A lovely youkai take on a well-known festival. TBHK really excels on character interactions and rich, immersive storytelling paired with the cute artstyle. The pacing also feels just right at least in comparison to the manga.
A perfectly calm pacing highlighting the slice of life portion of this anime. It's always so cute and heartwarming to see a normal day in the life of Yashiro despite her strange circumstances.
I love the brief clash of personalities that happened here, as well as the masterful balance of the fun and tense parts in this show. It really shows that you cannot just judge anime shows with cute art as always wholesome!
Love the character interactions in this season opener! As always, Yashiro's creative recaps with the cutesy artstyle brings out the charm for this series. The pacing feels just right, and even if you start from here you can get a good feel of the plot - which is genuinely intriguing!
It was so heartwarming to see Nene and Hanako talk things out after everything he did to try and keep Nene in the dream world. I'm still curious about what Aoi wanted to tell Nene in the first episode so I hope we do get to know what it was in season 3.
The scene where Mei and Shijima talking to each other in Mei's dream world honestly made me tear up a bit. It was heartwarming to see Shijima heal when she was able to talk with Mei, she was such a well written character.
In this episode, only a small part of Shijima's backstory was revealed, but I can tell that it'll be a sad one through the scenes only giving us vague hints. It was funny how Shijima would keep mentioning Nene's legs lol.
The city scene's with Nene and Amane were so creepy, every single person that she meets would appear with Shijima's face lol. Hanako's reason for wanting Nene to stay in this fake reality is just heartbreaking because I know they'd have to go back to their reality eventually.
This episode made feel so heart broken because Mitsuba enjoys living in the fake world because of how much he wants to be human, but he knows it'll end since Nene and Kou are determined to go back to their reality. It's admirable how Kou is willing to do anything to help Mitsuba.
In this episode, Nene and Kou were able to meet Shijima Mei, but the offer she gives them to return to their original world is just cruel. At the very least, it was funny how Kou was able to tell that the world they're in wasn't real just from Teru baking scones.
