This is a bit of a shock. Well, we saw it coming but as to how this person passed away was just cruel, and Fushi's rage resonates. It's a frustrating scene filled with hopes and dreams, yet the struggle is far from over. At least Tonari's past adds depth to her character.

This ep gets way more serious and you can really feel how messed up Fushi still trying to understand people while being surrounded by the worst possible people Hahaha

This episode reveals Tonari and her friends backstory and how they’ve survived on that harsh island. I love how Tonari documents everything in her notebook. The truth about Parona's death is so heartbreaking, especially since Fushi told her to continue living.

Episode Context

Positioned deep in the Jananda Island Arc, this episode follows the introduction and development of Tonari's role in the story and uses its runtime to enrich the emotional stakes before the arc's climax. It directly bridges the character-building of 'A Girl Named Tonari' with the heavier events anticipated in 'The Defeated,' making it essential connective tissue. With only four episodes remaining in the season, this is the calm before the storm, skip it and the finale's emotional payoffs will hit with far less weight.
