Episode Context

Sitting at episode 9 of 13, "But I've Kept Something Hidden" arrives at the point in the season where buried truths start clawing their way to the surface. The title signals an introspective shift, expect the pacing to pull back from pure action and lean into character-driven tension as concealed motives and secrets demand attention. Youshen Bupo and Jiang Li likely anchor the emotional weight here, with the fantasy elements of the Shanhai Jing mythology providing the backdrop for personal reckoning. The tone should feel heavier and more deliberate than earlier adventure-forward episodes, trading spectacle for stakes. This is the kind of mid-late season episode that recontextualizes what came before and raises the emotional cost of what's ahead. A turning point dressed as a confession.
