It killed me when that comb got crushed underfoot because you could see how much that gift from Nariko meant to her. I know Chiharu was being a bit petty and jealous but seeing her realize she messed up too late was a total gut punch. The way the animation went all abstract when they met was beautiful and really showed their tension.
