The aliens have all but won, humanity is on its last legs, and the people still breathing are running out of reasons to keep fighting. When he crosses paths with Mei Lin, a scientist who thinks she's found a crack in the aliens' armor, the two of them start pulling together a ragtag resistance crew. What follows across 24 episodes is a slow burn of desperate strategy, brutal encounters, and the kind of internal group tension that makes survival stories actually interesting. Sparkly Key Animation Studio went full CGI on this one, and it leans hard into that — the alien designs are genuinely unsettling and the battle choreography has real weight to it. The orchestral soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting too, giving even quieter moments a sense of dread.
