Genesis Survivor Gaiarth
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Brought up by a war machine named Randis in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a young guy named Ital genuinely believes the war is still happening — and that detail alone tells you what kind of world Gaiarth is: broken, forgotten, and full of machines still following orders from a conflict that ended long ago. When Ital's home is attacked and Randis is destroyed, he sets out for revenge, eventually teaming up with Zaxon, an amnesiac war-roid who doesn't remember whose side he was on, and Sahari, a junk hunter who knows how to survive in the rubble. The three of them make for an interesting group — each figuring out identity and purpose in a world that's basically a graveyard of old technology. This is a 3-episode OVA from 1992, so it moves fast and leans hard into atmosphere. The hand-drawn animation has that early 90s grit to it, and there's a rock-infused soundtrack that keeps things from feeling too bleak. If you liked the desolate world-building of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, or the survival tension of Blue Gender, Gaiarth scratches a similar itch. It's compact, it's surprisingly thoughtful about what makes something human, and it doesn't overstay its welcome.
