The Satisfaction

Synopsis
Night after night, Reiko is tormented by the same nightmare — a demonic figure forcing himself on her, vivid and disturbing enough to jolt her awake. Then one day, the nightmare doesn't stay in her sleep. This one-episode OVA from 1984 leans hard into psychological horror territory, blurring the line between dream and reality in a way that keeps you genuinely unsettled. Is it happening? Is she losing her mind? The anime doesn't rush to answer that, and the slow creep of dread is actually effective. The 1980s animation gives it a specific texture — slightly rough, atmospheric, with that grainy quality that older horror titles from the era tend to carry well. The soundtrack does real work here too, building tension rather than just sitting in the background. If you've seen Bible Black or Demon Beast Invasion and appreciated how those titles used horror framing to create genuine unease rather than just explicit content, The Satisfaction hits a similar register. It's closer to a short horror film than anything else, and the psychological angle — Reiko questioning what's real — gives it more substance than you might expect walking in. At a single episode, it's not a major time commitment. Just don't go in expecting something lighthearted. The tone is dark from the opening frames and doesn't let up.
