Episode Context

Coming off the high-intensity confrontation between Ryoma and Kirihara, episode 139 serves as a deliberate cooldown that expands the narrative lens to the wider roster. Positioned roughly 78% through the series, it deepens rival characterization at a point where secondary players need their moments before the endgame accelerates. Crucially, it bridges toward the highly anticipated return of Tezuka Kunimitsu in the following episode, making it a necessary setup piece.
