The King's Avatar 4
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Once the undisputed best player in Glory, China's biggest competitive online game, Ye Xiu was forced out by his own team. No fanfare, no retirement ceremony — just handed his account card over and walked out the door. Most people would move on, but Ye Xiu picks up a job at an internet café next to the Glory servers and starts grinding a new character from scratch, calling himself Lord Grim. This ONA picks up in the fourth season, where his comeback campaign is well underway and the stakes keep climbing. He's not just fighting random players anymore — he's going up against the pros who replaced him, the rivals who wrote him off, and a whole esports industry that doesn't want him back. What sets The King's Avatar apart from most gaming anime is how grounded it feels. The battles inside Glory are flashy and well-animated by Lingsanwu Animation, but the show treats esports like an actual profession with politics, team dynamics, and burnout. It respects the strategy behind competitive play rather than just hand-waving everything as "the power of friendship." If you liked Log Horizon's focus on game mechanics over isekai tropes, or wanted Sword Art Online with less fantasy and more realism about what competitive gaming actually looks like, this fits that niche. The tone stays action-packed but never forgets the human side of someone fighting to prove he still belongs at the top.
