This episode, we follow and start a new storyline with someone named Souma, who's having family troubles (so to speak) and Mao and Co decide to help him out, but it might have connections to the wider mysteries of the series. Overall, I wasn't wowed by this episode but it was rather pleasant to watch, even though it felt like most of it was just set-up for what's going to happen the next episode. Honestly, I'm not that invested in this storyline since it feels a little out of left field, but I hope that it'll show its potential next episode.

Episode Context

Coming directly after Episode 20, which closed out the Shiranui conflict and deepened the mysteries surrounding Mao's past, Episode 21 opens a new, self-contained case that pulls focus onto the Kagami brothers, Kazuma and Souma. The shift from large-scale historical mystery to a concentrated curse investigation keeps the season's core themes of inherited trauma and dangerous supernatural power firmly in view. At Episode 21 of 26, this arc arrives at a late-season point where individual cases carry heightened emotional and thematic weight as the series moves toward its conclusion.
