Episode 9 is a mediocre start to what many consider the worst arc of the series. The time travel premise has potential, but the execution is lazy and the pacing is slow. The animation is as weak as ever, and Ard remains a blank slate. If you were hoping the show would improve after the disaster of Episode 8, this episode suggests it won't. The Ancient Arc drags on for four episodes, and this is just the beginning.

I dont' understand. Ard doesn't even try to hide the fact that he knew too much about a time period that he (supposedly) hasn't born. But no one said anything??? Ireena and Ginny didn't question anything?

Episode Context

Episode 9 pumps the brakes on escalating conflicts to turn the camera inward. Ard Meteor's past life takes center stage here, and the result is a more contemplative, character-driven installment than the action-heavy episodes surrounding it. Expect slower pacing with a deliberate focus on identity, self-discovery, and the weight of carrying memories from a former existence as the most powerful demon lord. Lydia plays a significant role in grounding the episode's emotional beats, and their interactions carry much of the thematic weight. The fantasy action this series is known for takes a backseat, replaced by introspection and atmosphere. For viewers invested in Ard beyond his combat feats, this episode delivers meaningful character texture. For those here purely for fights, patience is required, the payoff is clearly being staged for what comes next.
