EPISODE REVIEWS

Episode Context

The series premiere drops you straight into the world of Hajime Kindaichi, a deceptively average high school student whose sharp mind belies his lazy exterior. The tone is classic 90s mystery anime, atmospheric, deliberately paced, and steeped in the creepy folklore of a school's haunted old building. Expect slow-burn tension rather than action as Hajime, alongside childhood friend Miyuki Nanase and members of Fudo High's Mystery Club, begin picking apart the so-called Seven Mysteries. Toei Animation leans into shadowy hallways and eerie legend-telling to establish a gothic mood that separates this from lighter detective fare. This is a setup episode through and through, prioritizing character introductions and world-building over resolution. If you appreciate mysteries that let dread simmer before the payoff, this opening salvo delivers exactly that.
