Issei's childhood trauma is a bit much.

Episode Context

The Fifth Apostle arc shifted into high gear in Episode 16, when the Matterhorn clue sent Shizuku and Issei to Switzerland and set the stage for a direct, dangerous competition. Episode 17 is the arc's perilous midpoint, moving past setup and into the climb itself, while sharpening the rivalry through the characters' starkly different methods and motivations. The escalating danger and psychological weight here lay the groundwork for whatever resolution the Fifth Apostle challenge demands in the episodes ahead.
