The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Daisuke can't read — not because he's illiterate, but because of something that happened in his childhood that left him with a deep aversion to them. Then he walks into the Biblia Antiquarian Bookshop in Kamakura carrying a set of autographed Natsume Soseki novels from his late grandmother, and everything gets complicated. The owner, Shinokawa Shioriko, is quietly intense in the way only people with a genuine obsession can be. She can barely hold a conversation with customers, but hand her a rare book and she'll unravel its entire hidden history like she's been waiting her whole life for that exact moment. Together, the two of them start digging into the secrets that old books carry — previous owners, hidden inscriptions, forgotten stories locked inside the margins. It's a mystery series, but the mysteries aren't about crimes so much as they are about people and the traces they leave behind. The pacing is slow and deliberate in a way that actually rewards patience. If you liked Hyouka's low-stakes intellectual curiosity or the quiet cultural warmth of Holmes of Kyoto, this sits comfortably in that same space. CloverWorks is handling the adaptation, working from a novel series, so expect care put into the atmosphere. It's emotional without being melodramatic, and mysterious without being thriller-y. Good rainy afternoon viewing.
