MaoMao is becoming more of a detective rather than an apothecary. Her deduction game is insane, I couldn’t even think of the situation like that. Anyways, a pretty fun episode as well, nothing bombastic happened, just a fun and simple episode. Finally get to see a gist of what the hair pins can do apparently, thankfully the gramps is safe and hopefully the guy’s arm can come back whole.

With the poison incident of the garden party mostly solved, Maomao is left with nothing to do when all her fellow lady-in-waiting forces her to have a proper rest. But that rest gives Maomao a nice opportunity when she learns a secret about the hairpins she won during the party.

I really like how every single person at the palace takes such good care of Maomao. But also, what’s with the Old Man? 🤨

Amazing writing especially when they imply relevant information through clues without fully revealing it keeping us questioning the truth like Jinshi's true identity. The explanation about the rear palace is great and the humor about Jinshi and Maomao always hits the spot.

I love seeing more depth from Jinshi. He's becoming a very interesting character. I also love seeing Maomao's slightly manipulative side; it makes her even more interesting and fun to watch. There is a lot of explanation in this episode, but it is all important to the plot.

The mystery side comes back stronger here, and it’s really satisfying to see Maomao figure things out. Jinshi continues to be intrigued by her, which adds to the overall charm of their dynamic.

I felt the story slow down a bit in this episode after the tension from the previous one. I think another mystery is about to happen, especially because of the female lead’s father’s facial expression in the last scene.

At this point, I’m fully invested in Maomao’s way of thinking. Her curiosity is honestly contagious—you start noticing things just because she would. I really love how each episode feels self-contained but still connected. The storytelling is consistent, and that’s something I really value. It never dips or feels like filler. Everything has its place, and it shows.

Our Maomao really is a smartie with a big heart. But she really is slow when it comes to romance. Haha
Finally got a bit clearer view of her background and living status outside the palace.

The animation for this episode is so cute! It went well with the lightheartedness and comedy of the episode. Lihaku and Maomao's interactions are too funny! It's nice to see Maomao reunited with her family even just for a while.

Seeing Maomao finally get to visit home only to end up solving a literal hot and spicy mystery was wild. She’s out here using chemistry to explain a "curse" while everyone else is wondering what the hell she is talking about man. Pure gold

I really impressed how Maomao able to identify the possible culprit for the earlier incident. She is soo good and confident about her knowledge. Finally Maomao got the chance to visit her home. It was heartwarming to see Maomao’s reunion with her father. I expected it to be emotional, crying-type but it was just "Maomao" vibe. Chill, casual. That's all🙄. The animation of the red-light district at night was stunning. The mystery of the "cursed" pipe was a great look at how chemistry explains supernatural events.

Maomao finally gets a break and uses it to go home. the poison bowl investigation with Gaoshun is clever as always but the real highlight is seeing her outside the palace for once. slower ep but the character moments make it worth it

Funny to see how maomao made the soldier be her guarantor for leaving the palace. Also interesting that the plot thickens with the old man hinting at the possibility that maomao may have been to the rear palace before she was kidnapped.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned at the rough quarter-mark of a 24-episode season, Episode 7 serves as a deliberate cooldown after the garden party crisis of Episode 6, which represented the first major arc's climax. By pulling Maomao out of the palace environment and into her personal history, it transitions the narrative from courtly intrigue toward the broader world and deeper character stakes that will fuel the season's second act.
