Not a lot happened this episode, I thought there’d be much but just a bit. The plot twist that she was still alive kinda shook me, interesting nonetheless since we came back to the poison topic. At this point I’d just have to accept that MaoMao is a detective at this point and Jinshi might be a prince or something.

7.8/10

After being able to prevent a tragedy at the ceremonial rite, Maomao is left with a great injury on her leg, unfortunately the life in the Palace never stops and her deduction capabilities are once again required when the person behind the web of incidents is found.

They did good in explaining the whole cermony incident so that those who did not get it the first time is able to follow the story. Huge reveals in the episode including the first real villain of the story. A very info heavy episode that slowly transitions us to a new arc.

I'm happy we finally got to learn more about Jinshi and Gaoshun's lives. It really helps develop the characters more when we get to learn more about their backgrounds. It's still impressive watching Maomao solve the mysteries with such calmness and analytical thinking.

By now, the characters feel more developed, especially Maomao and Jinshi. Their interactions carry more weight. It’s nice to see how far things have come.

Maomao being completely unfazed by things that would normally shock others will never stop being funny. I really love how consistent her personality is. The episode itself flows nicely, with a good balance of light and serious moments. The standout scene is when she reacts so casually to something unusual, while everyone else is clearly affected. That contrast is always entertaining. It’s one of those moments that defines her character perfectly.

Our Maomao just can't rest for sometime after getting injured she's out solving a case again. Jinshi can't help but be worried of her. I can't stop myself from laughing when Maomao was laughing like an evil girl at the morgue such a peculiar personality.

Maomao wakes up in Jinshi's quarters with 15 stitches and still somehow finds a way to be the smartest person in the room. she connects every single dot from the past few eps and the Suirei reveal maaan. also Jinshi is so down bad and the ending scene? peak shipping fuel

Brilliant!! Suirei waking up in that coffin was straight out of a horror movie⚰️🥶. It was chilling experience...Analytically, her using thornapple to fake death is a 10/10 medical gambit. Gaoshun and Jinshi’s "secret" is about to explode! This episode was full of plot twists⚡

The tension after the explosion was heavy. Maomao figuring out the Thornapple toxin while still recovering from her injury was such a big deal. Seeing her connect the mystery to the past while Jinshi stayed by her side really hit the feels!

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned at episode 20 of 24, 'Thornapple' functions as a critical bridge in the season's final stretch, processing the consequences of the assassination attempt addressed in 'Chance or Something More' while redirecting the narrative toward deeper political and personal stakes. It transitions the series from reactive crisis management into proactive investigation, setting the stage for the upcoming 'How to Buy Out a Contract' and the endgame conflicts of the season's closing episodes.
