EPISODE REVIEWS

Episode Context

This premiere follows the second-season finale, "The Beginning," which concluded the Shi Clan rebellion, so the episode works as a reset that carries that conflict's aftermath rather than reopening it. Maomao has stepped away from her Rear Palace role and Jinshi has publicly assumed his imperial responsibilities, a shift that reframes their dynamic and the stakes around them. What it sets in motion is quieter and larger: the first clues pointing toward a disaster that threatens the nation, with Loulan's warning as the thread the season will pull on.
