Synopsis
In a quiet mountain forest, a slow, good-natured raccoon dog named Tanuki makes his home. Kitsune is his fox best friend, who loves nothing more than finding clever little ways to mess with him. The two of them wander through their woodland home, bicker, prank each other, and generally enjoy a very low-stakes existence alongside a cast of animal neighbors, a wolf, a bear, a rabbit, some birds, who each bring their own small personality to the mix. The humor is gentle and consistent, the kind that makes you smile rather than laugh loudly. If you liked the quiet, cozy rhythm of something like Mitchiri Neko or Nameko Sekai no Tomodachi, this fits right into that same space, short episodes, no pressure, easy to pick up and put down. It's adapted from a web manga and landing in 2026 as a kids' series, but the animal friendship energy reads across age groups without any trouble. Good for watching with younger siblings or just when you want something that asks nothing of you.

Morikawa voicing that round little wolf with the coldest tone got me. Deep movie star voice coming out of a fluffy guy. Perfect contrast to the kids squeaking at him
The bit where the wolf glances at the Little Red Riding Hood book before shoving Tanuki is comedy gold. He knows exactly what that book says about his kind
I lost it at the squishy paw sound. That push to the face was the entire episode and it earned every second of it. Tanuki treating a rejection like a rare collectible is so on brand for him
Two minutes. That is all we get and one of those minutes is Tanuki staring at a fire like it owes him money. Misaki Kuno's trembling little voice during that part was worth more than most full episodes
The whole leaf pile thing was so soothing and then the fire fear came out of nowhere and I felt bad for laughing at him trembling

That tail stretch went on way longer than it had any right to and I laughed the whole time. Misaki Kuno's squished noises while he's stuck in the hole are the reason this short works
