Tanaka-kun is Always Listless
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Nobody has elevated laziness to an art form quite like Tanaka. This high schooler falls asleep everywhere: in class, in hallways, on benches, and his entire philosophy revolves around conserving energy and avoiding anything that might disrupt his peaceful existence. His best friend Oota, a tall and patient guy, literally carries him around when Tanaka can't be bothered to walk. That's the dynamic, and it somehow never stops being funny. This 12-episode TV series from SILVER LINK. is a slice of life that leans hard into its iyashikei roots. The humor comes from Tanaka's commitment to doing absolutely nothing while the world keeps pulling him into things. Miyano, a tiny ball of energy, decides she wants to learn the ways of listlessness from him. Shiraishi, a classmate who seems to have her life together, keeps finding reasons to be around him. Every character orbits Tanaka's black hole of lethargy, and the contrast is where the comedy lives. The animation is clean and minimalist in a way that actually matches the vibe: soft colors, gentle pacing, a soundtrack that feels like a warm afternoon nap. If you liked the quiet observational humor of Tonari no Seki-kun or the way Hyouka made low-energy characters genuinely compelling, this hits a similar note. It's closer to Nichijou in spirit, just dialed way down in intensity. Perfect for when you want something wholesome that asks nothing of you, which is exactly what Tanaka would want.

I think I already got their dynamic figured out HAHAHA. A slow pace is nice sometimes, everything screams slice-of-life, loving it hahaha. Ohta is the classic big-bear friend. Doing everything possible to be lazy. Such a unique talent. I highly doubt that hahaha. Yep.
THIS IS THE BEST ANIME I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS
I LOVED THIS SOO MUCH, IT'S SO ENTERTAINING
Despite the slow, chilling pace, the ending was so unexpected. I can't wait for the next season. What is going to happen with this extraordinary couple.
This episode is a total meme goldmine. It's hilarious how he scares everyone just by existing. Truly a low-effort legend😴👻
This episode gives off chilly summer festival vibes. Best Bro basically started a new trend, and today's episode setting is just so cute and sweet!
It’s peak comedy when your face terrifies the neighbourhood, but you're actually just a gentle giant. These wholesome sibling antics prove the Ohtas have a natural instinct to be the Tanakas' caregivers.
Oh wow, a new face and don't judge books by its cover. Otha and Ecchan interaction is so wholesome. You can really see their bond. It’s a relaxed and low-stress episode as always. Despite everything, Tanaka actually worked hard this time!
The humor really peaks with how Tanaka treats romantic gestures like they’re just another chore on his to-do list. At the same time, Shiraishi’s low-key attempts to get his attention are total "Comedic Gold," fitting perfectly into the show’s usual mellow pace. It’s just a really
This episode really highlights how the show levels up every character, not just the leads. Definitely 10/10 vibes for the "spine" of the show.
The comedy gets better with every episode, especially when Tanaka tries to imagine Ohta's family and Ohta completely misinterprets Tanaka's unexpected efforts.
That feeling when you can finally be yourself! The character switch hits differently as the show embraces every sigh and silence with its signature slow-burn pacing.
Nice move on using Shiraishi and Tanaka's shipping to end the anime to appeal to romance lovers while maintaing it's identity as a comedy. I love how they nonchalantly invlolve every main casts in this last episode and the only one missing is Ms. Wacdonald.
I love dynamics of the classroom on how they are used to Tanaka's lazy shenanigans which gives you a comfy vibes. The soundtracks were good and very fitting giving a fun vibe to the festival while maintaining chill vibes of the anime. Miyano's comedic relief was a great idea.
Sadly we’re at the end, it was such a calm, healing ride. A crazy battle for Tanaka haha. In the end it wasn’t so bad for him. Shiraishi is fighting her own battle, I’m rooting for her. That was rough. HAHAHA got caught lacking bro. The daily misunderstandings stay so refreshing.
Bro got the short end of the stick HAHAHA. Surprisingly fits the role. He truly cares only about being listless. Great seeing them all work hard. It became an attraction for unexpected reasons. BWAHAHA that was not on my bingo card. He commits to the bit fully.
A very cute episode indeed. They checked all the boxes of a classic summer anime event in one episode but it did not feel rushed or lacking because they managed to input a lazy joke in each one. I love the absurdities Tanaka's laziness can take but somehow made it realistic.
Ohh different setting, nice change of pace. Doesn’t matter where they are, Tanaka depends on Ohta. They meet again hahaha. He started a trend out of nowhere. Great chance to bond, go Shiraishi. Another fresh setting too, they’re on a roll. Great moments.
He gets motivated by the weirdest things hahaha. Real shame though. So many misunderstandings at once, this show does that best. They’re back at it again. BWAHAHA they’re really alike. The translation is awesome, even the stuttering. She’s loyal in every sense hahaha.
Let’s see how he handles this. That was deserved. BWAHAHA those interactions are always gold. She’s very different from what we thought. Great breakdown of an important character. He’s definitely growing. That’s a real challenge for Tanaka. Great idea as always HAHAHA.
