Taisho Era Contract Marriage: The Substitute Bride and a Soldier's Fierce Love
Oshimeter
Synopsis
As the overlooked elder daughter of a viscount, Asako Touno is quietly shunned by high society and overshadowed by her younger sister, Hiroko. When a marriage proposal arrives from Captain Shintarou Kido, a cold, decorated soldier rumored to want a wife purely for bearing heirs, Asako makes a decision: she steps in as a substitute bride to shield her sister from a man nobody seems eager to get close to. That's your setup, and it's a good one. The Taisho era backdrop — Japan in the early 1900s, caught between tradition and modernization — gives the whole thing a particular texture, with its rigid class expectations and military culture pressing down on both characters equally. What makes it worth watching is how the relationship between Asako and Kido develops once they're actually stuck with each other. He's not a simple villain, and she's not a passive victim. There's genuine tension in watching two people navigate an arrangement neither fully chose. If you enjoyed My Happy Marriage or Taisho Otome Fairy Tale, the vibe here is in that same territory — historical romance with real emotional weight behind it. It leans more intensely into the passion side of things than either of those, closer to 3 Seconds Later, He Turned Into a Beast in that regard. Eight episodes, adapted from manga, and the relationship dynamics do most of the heavy lifting. Worth a look if slow-burn historical romance is your thing.
