Synopsis
Still reeling from the death of his wife, high school teacher Kouhei Inuzuka is left trying to raise his little daughter Tsumugi on his own — and the man cannot cook to save his life. Their diet is basically convenience store bentos and microwave meals, which works until you see Tsumugi's face light up at the idea of real home-cooked food. After a chance meeting at a park, they end up at the family restaurant of Kotori Iida — one of Kouhei's own students — only to find out she's usually eating alone there too, since her mom is always away. So the three of them start cooking together, learning recipes from scratch, and what unfolds is this quiet, gentle rhythm of people finding comfort in sharing meals. This 12-episode TV series from TMS Entertainment is pure iyashikei comfort. The cooking scenes are animated with genuine care — you'll get hungry watching it, though it's less competitive kitchen drama and more "let's figure out how to make donabe rice without burning it." The real draw is watching Kouhei stumble through single parenthood with honest vulnerability, and Tsumugi being one of the most naturally written kid characters in anime. She acts like an actual child, not a plot device. If you liked the found-family warmth of Usagi Drop or the healing-through-daily-life pace of Barakamon, this fits right alongside those. It's not trying to be dramatic or profound — it's just three people learning to cook, eat, and feel a little less alone together.
