Synopsis

Meet Nobita Nobi, a fourth-grader who's bad at basically everything — studying, sports, standing up for himself. He's such a disaster that his own great-great-grandson travels back in time from the 22nd century to intervene, bringing along a round blue robotic cat named Doraemon. The plan is simple: use futuristic gadgets to help Nobita stop being, well, Nobita, and maybe get him to actually win over his crush, Shizuka, instead of ending up a lifelong loser. What follows is a movie that stitches together some of the most iconic Doraemon storylines into one surprisingly cohesive and emotional narrative. This is the first full 3D CGI Doraemon movie, and the animation from Shirogumi and Shin-Ei Animation holds up — the characters feel warm and expressive in a way that honors the original manga without just being nostalgia bait. The comedy lands the way you'd expect from classic Doraemon — goofy gadget mishaps, Gian being a bully, Suneo being insufferable — but there's a genuine emotional core here about growing up, taking responsibility, and learning to stand on your own. It hits harder than you'd think for something aimed at kids. If you grew up with Crayon Shin-chan or Chibi Maruko-chan, this occupies similar territory but with more sci-fi and a surprising amount of heart. Even if you've never seen a single Doraemon episode, this movie works perfectly as a standalone entry point. Bring tissues, honestly.
