Synopsis
At ten years old, Nobita Nobi is a kid living in Tokyo who is genuinely, spectacularly bad at everything — school, sports, pretty much life in general. His failures are so thorough that they echo all the way into the 22nd century, where his descendants are still dealing with the fallout. Their solution: send a robot cat named Doraemon back in time to fix things. Doraemon comes loaded with a four-dimensional pocket stuffed with futuristic gadgets for every occasion, which sounds like it should solve all of Nobita's problems immediately. It does not. The gadgets work, technically, but Nobita finds creative ways to make things worse anyway, and Doraemon is too fond of him to give up. What follows is a low-stakes, genuinely warm TV series built around friendship, small everyday disasters, and the particular chaos that comes from giving a careless kid access to sci-fi technology. There are bullies, crushes, homework crises, and neighborhood adventures — nothing world-ending, just the messy texture of being a kid. The tone stays comedic and light throughout, but the friendship between Nobita and Doraemon carries real affection underneath the slapstick. If you grew up watching something like Kiteretsu Daihyakka or Kaiketsu Zorori, this hits a similar note — curious, funny, and comfortable. It is one of the foundational kids' anime for a reason, and the 1973 original is where it all started.
