Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 9: Anya's Era Has Come

The grand hall of Eden Academy becomes a stage for recognition. Anya Forger, Damian Desmond, Becky Blackwell, and Bill Watkins receive Stella Stars for their bravery during the bus hijacking, lauded by Henry Henderson. While Anya beams with pride and Bill weeps with joy, Damian maintains his usual stoicism. Outside, the children are celebrated, though Henderson shields them from the press, much to Anya's mild disappointment.

A stark flashback pulls us back to the hijacked bus, moments after the crisis. Tactical teams work to remove the collars, and the children are led away to safety. Damian sits rigidly, pale, as the device is unlatched. Nearby, Bill Watkins and other students are openly sobbing, a raw and honest display of fear that underscores the terror they endured.

As night falls, Anya and Damian are left waiting at the school gates, alone. Damian, in a rare unguarded moment, admits Anya's bravery was impressive. Seizing the opportunity, Anya boldly invites herself to his house to discuss "world peace" with his father. Damian immediately regains his defensive posture, rejecting her outright and accusing her of opportunism, though his reddened face betrays his fluster. He watches her walk away, realizing no one is coming for him, and Anya, reading his deep loneliness, gently pats his back in an unexpected gesture of sympathy.

Suddenly, Yor Forger bursts onto the scene, a whirlwind of desperate relief. She scoops Anya into a fierce embrace, her tears flowing as she checks her daughter for any injuries. The raw emotion finally overwhelms Anya, who buries her face in Yor's shoulder, the pent-up fear and stress finally releasing. From a distance, Loid Forger, disguised, watches with a quiet, paternal relief, promising Anya a celebratory meal.

A luxurious car pulls up, and Melinda Desmond emerges, rushing to her son Damian. She pulls him into a frantic, tearful hug, expressing her terror. Damian is clearly embarrassed by the public display, but Melinda clings to him tightly. As Anya, still in Yor's arms, inadvertently reads Melinda's thoughts, she is horrified. The woman's mind is a terrifying jumble of intense love and deep resentment, calling Damian both her "treasure" and a "curse," leaving Anya visibly trembling.

The next morning, Anya is energetic, singing a self-composed "Starlight" song, her trauma seemingly brushed aside. Yor is relieved to see her daughter's quick recovery. Loid, however, observes Anya with a more discerning eye, worried she might be repressing deeper issues. He reflects on his own difficult past, vowing to be more attentive as a father, even while Anya playfully protests eating green peppers.

Back at school, Damian is once again hailed as a hero. Yet, a flashback to his home life reveals a different picture. He eats a solitary, formal dinner, served by Jeeves, the butler. Jeeves mentions that Melinda personally prepared the meal, but Damian consumes it in silence, the empty chairs at the vast table emphasizing his profound isolation. He returns to school, donning a brave facade for his friends, but the emptiness of his home remains.

Inside the school, both Anya and Damian are surrounded by classmates, now celebrities. Anya revels in her new title, "Double Starlight Anya," and fantasizes about world domination through popularity. Pivoting to "Plan B-reversed," she begins fabricating outrageous stories about her "commoner" home life. She boasts of a 100-kilogram toothbrush and boiling bathwater, even portraying her dog, Bond, as a ferocious beast she battles daily. While most students are impressed, Damian sees through her lies, but Anya doubles down, determined to impress him with her fabricated toughness. When her classmates ask to join her training, Anya quickly invents an excuse, claiming Yor is recovering from a "broken neck."

Finally, provoked by Damian's mocking of her family and her 'commoner' status, Anya deploys her ultimate weapon: tactical crying. She dramatically wails, accusing Damian of being a cruel bully. The other students instantly turn on Damian, whispering about his unnecessary meanness towards a fellow hero. Caught off guard by the sudden social backlash, Damian becomes flustered as the girls glare at him. Unable to withstand the pressure, he blushes furiously and shouts a frantic apology to Anya before fleeing the scene. Anya immediately ceases her performance, sharing a smug look with Becky, having successfully asserted dominance.
