Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Yuri Suzuki: just your average 15-year-old Japanese girl, riding the high of passing her exams and getting her first kiss — and then mysterious hands reach out of a puddle and drag her 3,000 years into the past. She wakes up in the ancient Hittite Empire, surrounded by soldiers, and promptly gets hauled off to a queen's palace to be used as a human sacrifice. Not exactly the follow-up to a first kiss anyone plans for. This is a shoujo time-travel story set in 14th century BC Anatolia, which is already a wildly different backdrop from the usual feudal Japan or fantasy kingdom fare. The Hittite Empire, Queen Nakia's political scheming, King Suppiluliuma — it's rooted in actual history, and the manga it's based on leans hard into the court intrigue and power struggles of that era. Yuri isn't just surviving monsters or magic; she's navigating a world where politics can get you killed faster than any battlefield. She's resourceful and sharp, which she needs to be, because nobody's handing her an easy path. The vibe is emotional and romantic but with real stakes — think the isekai danger of Fushigi Yuugi mixed with the historical weight of The Twelve Kingdoms. If you liked Inuyasha's time-travel romance but want something grittier and more politically layered, this one's worth your time. Tatsunoko Production is handling the adaptation, and the source material is beloved for good reason.
