Synopsis
In a quiet coastal town, a high school swimmer named Hajime ends up in an unusual situation: two girls in his life, Asa and Natsume, both develop feelings for him over the summer. Asa is a transfer student who joined the swim club to work through her parents' divorce, and Natsume is a cheerful girl who spends her time gardening. Rather than a rivalry playing out between them, they come to an arrangement: they'll share their time with him. That premise alone sets a different tone from what you might expect. These two-episode specials, based on a visual novel, lean into the emotional side of that triangle more than you'd anticipate. The art direction comes from character designer Tony Taka, so the visuals have a distinctive, expressive quality that feels more considered than most entries in the genre. There's a reflective, slow-summer atmosphere running through the whole thing: beach town, warm light, people figuring out their feelings. If you've watched something like Shoujo Sect: Innocent Lovers and appreciated when these kinds of stories take their character dynamics seriously, this sits in a similar space. It's not trying to be more than it is, but within those two episodes it builds genuine emotional texture around its leads. Worth a look if you're curious about adult animation that's putting some actual thought into its relationships.

getting a recap of all the hajime and natsume moments is a decent way to spend ten minutes but you really wish there was some new footage added in
asa and the pool water looked great in the original and they look great here too because that blue color palette is just perfect
the background art captures that hazy summer feeling so well that i felt like i was back in the original series even if it is just a highlight reel
natsume always had the better design in the original and this bonus just confirms it while everyone waits for more new stuff to drop
tony taka art is basically the only reason to watch this and seeing the pool scene again reminds you why the main series art style is so good
you can really see the difference in the line work during the close up shots, and it makes the old art style shine
i was surprised by how much effort went into the background art for that outdoor sequence and it looked really clean
the music they played during the transitions was actually really nice and it fit the mood of the scenes perfectly
that last shot of the sunset stayed with me because the colors looked so much more vibrant than the tv rip
having shizuku in high definition is the only reason to even sit through this short bonus clip
Seeing all these highlights back to back makes it clear how much that specific character design style from the mid 2000s is missed, because everything now looks way too digital. The way the lighting was handled in the pool scene is still impressive and it holds up way better than most of the stuff coming out today
it is cool to have the best parts in one place and the animation quality from the green bunny days is still so distinct
the way they cleaned up the visuals for the dvd version makes a huge difference in that shower scene
it seemed like there would be some extra content or a new scene but it really is just a highlight reel of what was already in the show
i wish i had checked the title before buying this because i already have the original episodes and this added nothing
This is basically a best of reel for the swimming scenes and having all the spicy moments in one place is way better than scrubbing through the full episodes
I usually find these recap episodes a bit lazy, but seeing the swimming pool scenes with this art style again made me appreciate the character designs way more than the first time
Those character designs carry the whole thing because the art style is so distinct and watching Hajime with both girls at the same time was definitely the highlight
Asa and Natsume look so much better in this version and the recap style makes it easy to skip the boring talk and get straight to the swimming club stuff
I just wanted to see the pool scene again and this special delivered exactly that and Tony Taka really knows how to draw those character designs perfectly
