Desire and its messy consequences tie together three separate stories set in feudal Japan. This 3-episode OVA from 2004 takes an anthology approach — each episode is its own self-contained tale, which means the pacing stays tight and nothing overstays its welcome. The first story drops you into the life of a young woman stuck in a frustrating marriage to an older man, and when he leaves town, a thief shows up with complications she didn't plan for. The second shifts into war-era Japan, following a princess and her loyal vassal Shingo as they flee a kingdom that's already fallen — and whatever's waiting for them on the other side isn't exactly safety. The third involves a clan lord and a princess, though details there get murky fast.
