EPISODE REVIEWS

Wow

Starts slow but the characters are so over the top it kind of saves it. School setting, simple story, but there's something charming about how intense everyone is about everything. Cute in a loud way.

Episode Context

As episode 1 of 101, this is pure foundation-laying, introducing Hanamichi Sakuragi's personality, his volatile temperament, and the unlikely catalyst that pulls him toward basketball. No on-court action yet; this episode exists to make you invest in a protagonist who doesn't even like the sport he'll come to define himself by. Everything established here, Hanamichi's pride, his infatuation with Haruko, his antagonistic energy, becomes the fuel for the long character arc and team-building journey that unfolds across the series.
