This episode explains the important role of publishing wholesalers in the book industry. It shows how they negotiate with bookstores, coordinate with publishers, and ensure books are distributed efficiently. I never realized how many people work behind the scenes to make sure books arrive on store shelves.

Episode Context

Sitting just past the midpoint of this 12-episode run, Episode 7 shifts from Episode 6's competitive fair-day energy into the broader logistical and social realities of the book industry. It deepens the show's exploration beyond the storefront, expanding Honda-san's world outward to wholesalers and industry peers. This groundwork naturally leads into Episode 8's focus on the craft of shelf organization and what makes bookstores special.
