Sins of the Sisters
Oshimeter
Synopsis
During the 1212 AD Crusades, a young soldier is betrayed by the Pope, sold into slavery, and driven to drown himself with a vow to return as a fallen angel — that's his fate. Centuries later, he's reincarnated as Aiko Mimura — a woman who claws her way up to become a military leader, unites the entire world, and dismantles organized religion entirely. Then the memories of that past life start bleeding through, and she travels back in time to figure out what actually happened. That's a lot of story for a 2-episode OVA from 1994, and it genuinely commits to it. The historical Crusades setting mixed with reincarnation and time travel gives it a scope that feels bigger than it has any right to be. The themes — betrayal by religious institutions, identity across lifetimes, revenge that reshapes history — are surprisingly substantive for the format. The 90s animation has that rough, hand-drawn texture that either works for you or it doesn't, but it fits the dark tone well. If you've watched Bible Black or Angel Sanctuary and appreciated how those titles used historical or religious imagery as a backdrop for something stranger and more personal, this sits in similar territory. It's not a polished production, and the pacing moves fast given the episode count, but the premise is genuinely interesting and the execution takes itself seriously enough to follow through.
