Synopsis
Completely strapped for cash, high schooler Sakurai Taichi takes a gig as a film set assistant to make some quick money. Pretty normal so far. Then he walks onto set and discovers two things: the shoot is for an adult video, and his classmate Himawari Kanan, easily the most attractive girl in school, is one of the performers. Yeah, that's the setup. What makes this OVA interesting beyond the obvious is watching Taichi try to process the situation. He's uncomfortable, conflicted, and caught between wanting to bail and needing the money. Meanwhile Kanan treats the whole thing with a surprising level of composure, framing it as just another experience. The tension between their school dynamic and this completely different context creates an awkward push-and-pull that drives everything forward. Based on a manga and animated by New Generation, this 2024 release leans into the premise without pretending to be something it's not. If you've watched stuff like My First Girlfriend Is a Gal or Ao-chan Can't Study and wished they'd actually commit to the provocative setups instead of dancing around them, this is the version that follows through. There's also a bit of the unexpected classmate chemistry you'd find in I Got Married to the Girl I Hate Most in Class, just in a very different context. That scene where Kanan takes control of the shoot while Taichi was still panicking about her being there made me love how their dynamic flipped
Looking at the character designs and the way Kanan was drawn in those close up shots made the animation look very polished
The lead actor getting injured right when things were starting was the perfect excuse for Taichi to take over and it worked out so well
Finding the school beauty Kanan on an adult film set after Taichi took a random job for cash was such a big surprise
Kanan saying she wanted to do the shoot because it was educational made me laugh so hard and the way she just went for it was actually wild
The visuals for Kanan are really solid and the contrast between her school persona and her actions on set is huge
Taichi going from being totally broke to being the lead star opposite Kanan is the kind of luck you only see in this genre
The way the lead actor got hurt so Taichi could take over was such a classic move, but the chemistry they have makes it work
That school idol acting so shameless about the filming was a massive surprise and it really sets a different tone for her character
Kanan calling the adult film shoot an educational experience is probably the wildest justification for doing something like that and it really fits her vibe
My heart stopped when Taichi realized he was on an adult film set with the girl of his dreams and then ended up in the video
Watching the lead actor go down like that felt like such a convenient excuse for the mc to finally get involved with Kanan
I still cannot believe Kanan just accepted that role so casually and her school idol reputation makes the whole situation way more intense
I really did not expect Kanan to be that bold about the whole situation, especially since she is supposed to be the most beautiful girl at their school, and my favorite part was definitely when the lead actor had his accident and Taichi had to step in because the tension between them was already through the roof
The transition from Taichi trying to quit to him actually replacing the main actor happened so fast and it kept the momentum going
Taichi trying to run away when he saw the cameras made me laugh and the way he just got stuck anyway was so awkward
The animation quality on the shoot scenes is actually better than most seasonal shows and Kanan looks incredible in every frame
I usually expect these setups to be a bit more forced but Kanan just deciding to do the movie because it would be educational made me laugh, and the production value is way higher than I expected for a first episode. Seeing Taichi have to fill in for the actor after that accident was a really funny way to force them together on camera.
I was not ready for Kanan to just accept that role like it was nothing and her character design is basically perfect
Taichi really needed the money but that school beauty Kanan being on an adult film set is wild and she even called it educational
