📖 SYNOPSIS

"Sekai no Hikari: Shinran Shounin" chronicles the early life of Shinran, the future founder of the Joudo Shinshuu sect of Buddhism. The story begins with Matsuwakamaru, a young boy who experiences the tragic loss of his father in infancy and his mother, Kikkou, when he is only eight years old. Witnessing his mother's death, Matsuwakamaru is consumed by questions about the afterlife and the nature of death. He wonders about the cycle of heaven, hell, and rebirth, and if there is a way to escape this seemingly endless cycle of suffering. Driven by a deep yearning for knowledge and understanding, Matsuwakamaru, at the tender age of nine, makes the momentous decision to join a Buddhist monastery on Mt. Hiei, where he takes on the name Shinran, beginning his path to enlightenment.
