Episode 9 was a very emotional episode for me. It was not that explosive, but it touched me deeply. Because of Ecchan, of course. I really hope the best for her. Hanabi and Ecchan are both hurt and empty inside, so honestly, seeing the confrontation between the two of them made me hope for a lot.

The power dynamics are on full display here. The first outburst of them all. The confrontation between Sanae and Hanabi shifts the gears of this anime. I really like the pace in this episode. The narrative and the scene sequence is also good to complement each other.

Episode 9 is a gently powerful installment that deepens emotional resonance. It may not provide closure, but it offers something more valuable: the quiet certainty that healing is possible, one small step at a time.

Episode Context

Kuzu no Honkai strips another layer of emotional armor off its cast, and episode nine might be the rawest wound yet. The spotlight narrows onto Hanabi and Ecchan as their relationship reaches a critical pressure point, forcing both to confront what they actually want versus what they're willing to settle for. A change of scenery to Karuizawa provides deceptive calm, the atmosphere is quiet and intimate, but the emotional stakes underneath are suffocating. The pacing is deliberately slow, built for introspection rather than incident. Expect long, uncomfortable silences that say more than dialogue, and character work that refuses to let anyone hide behind pretense. This is Scum's Wish at its most contemplative and painful, examining whether genuine connection can exist inside relationships built on loneliness and compromise. Not an easy watch, but an essential one.
