He reads an economics book on a train platform, oblivious to anything beyond his ordered world. He believes, "Rules are indispensable for the smooth operation of a system."

As the train approaches, the disgruntled employee reappears, his face contorted with madness. He lunges, pushing the Salaryman directly into the path of the oncoming train. Commuters scream in shock, but time seems to slow for the Salaryman. He registers the sheer irrationality of this act, a final thought before impact.

Time stops, and a booming voice claims to be the creator. The Salaryman, ever analytical, refuses to call the entity 'God,' instead addressing it as Being X. Speaking through frozen commuters and even a pigeon, Being X expresses frustration at the man's lack of faith. The Salaryman counters with rational arguments, asserting that science and safety have removed the need for a deity. Being X is angered by this arrogance and decides to place the man in a situation where he will truly be desperate.

Being X pronounces judgment: the Salaryman will be reborn into a war-torn world, in a weak body. If he dies again without awakening faith, there will be no further reincarnations. The Salaryman is horrified, but his defiance holds until the very end. Time resumes, and the train hits with a sickening thud, cutting to a stark title card: 'Saga of Tanya the Evil.'

The Salaryman is reborn as a baby girl named Tanya in a cold, dim room, horrified and disgusted by her new, vulnerable state. She recognizes the pre-WWI European setting, observing a poor orphanage where food is scarce and nationalism runs high. Her internal thoughts, still those of the calculating Salaryman, pragmatically analyze the geopolitics and the inevitability of war. She concludes that her best chance for a comfortable life is to join the military as an officer, securing a safe position away from combat.

Tanya undergoes a magic aptitude test at the orphanage. A heavy metallic helmet is placed on her head, and she manifests an astonishingly high concentration of mana, surprising the researchers. The observers are stunned by her 'A-rank' potential, marking her as a child prodigy. Tanya responds with a chilling, predatory smile, knowing this is her ticket to influence and a perfect, safe career path.

A montage shows Tanya entering a military academy, her small stature standing out among taller men, as she excels in both academic and practical combat training. Her knowledge of military strategy and magic far surpasses her peers. Rapidly promoted, she achieves her goal of a fast-track career. Just as she is about to pull the trigger, Erich von Lergen arrives, stopping her. He looks at Tanya with fear and disgust, recognizing a profound lack of human empathy, while Tanya instantly reverts to perfect military professionalism.

In 1923, Tanya arrives at the mountainous, snow-covered Norden region for what she expects to be a routine field exercise. War officially breaks out, however, with an invasion by the Legadonia Entente Alliance. Annoyed, Tanya is ordered to the front as an aerial artillery spotter. She takes to the sky, using her magic core, identifying enemy infantry units with chilling precision, viewing them as mere targets. Her voice remains steady and unemotional as she relays coordinates to the Empire's heavy artillery, directing devastating fire onto the Alliance ground forces.

Anson Sue, commander of an Alliance mage squad, notices the single spotter in the sky and correctly identifies her as the key to the Empire's devastating artillery. He orders his squad to intercept her, taking off in their magic skis with grim determination. Back in the sky, Tanya's radio is jammed, and she realizes she is now being hunted. She feels a familiar frustration that Being X's 'irrational' world is interfering with her plans once again, preparing for the inevitable engagement.

The aerial battle ignites as the Alliance mages open fire on Tanya. She uses her incredible speed and agility, weaving through their projectiles, leading them on a high-stakes chase through the clouds. Tanya leads the mages into a narrow mountain canyon, using the terrain to her advantage and separating them. She uses a surprise maneuver to get behind one pursuer, her movements sharp and calculated. The Alliance mages attempt a coordinated pincer, but Tanya breaks through with a high-altitude burst, firing back with magic-infused shots, surprising them with her power and accuracy.

The ensuing explosion consumes everything, obliterating the Alliance mages in a blinding white light, a total victory for Tanya.

Tanya lies heavily bandaged in a hospital bed at the Empire's base camp, exhausted but alive after her first major combat. Her internal monologue reveals her frustration: her 'bravery' has backfired, ensuring more front-line assignments, not the safe rear she sought. Her commanders present her with the Silver Wing Assault Badge, the Empire's highest honor for mages, praising her 'extraordinary courage and tactical genius.' Tanya accepts the medal with a perfect military salute, but her eyes betray her dismay; she has become a symbol of the war effort, the very thing she wished to avoid.

In a cluttered, dark laboratory, Dr. Schugel works on a new magic core. He laughs maniacally as the core pulses with an unstable, ominous red light. This scene hints at even more dangerous and experimental magic technology being developed. Dr. Schugel's obsession with combining magic and technology is clear, setting the stage for future threats and developments.

In a post-credits scene, Tanya is forced to pose in a frilly red dress for propaganda photographs. She looks utterly miserable and humiliated, but her superior officers insist it is vital for the war effort. She internally fumes, convinced Being X must be laughing at her current situation. Her high-pitched, fake smile for the camera is a sharp contrast to her inner rage, a final, absurd indignity.
