The narrator confirms these are grotesques, once human, now horribly distorted. Fram looks on, visibly terrified by the gruesome sight of the creatures.

Knights Edo and Johnny intervene, tasking Fram with civilian evacuation while they handle the monster. Later, Edo reveals a disturbing truth: the Church is involved in a clear cover-up, deploying unusually high-ranking knights, 'almost like popes.' He speaks of witnesses reporting victims attacked by 'Eyeballs,' transforming them into the grotesque creatures Fram just witnessed. Fram is shocked by the implication of secret Church research and wonders how she can protect her loved ones from such insidious forces.

Fram's thoughts briefly turn to Kirill, bringing the scene to Kirill herself, adorned in full armor. She is struggling, unable to advance as planned, burdened by a deep sense of guilt and worthlessness. Kirill admits that after Fram left, she became unable to fight effectively, a poignant confession that highlights her profound regret and emotional dependence on Fram. Maria's everyday thoughts are suddenly interrupted by overheard conversations about a forthcoming duel between Deim and Karnis, a struggle for control of the West District. Spectators discuss their bets, with some confident in Deim, believing his recent conversion to the Church is a calculated move. An air of tense anticipation settles over the city as the showdown approaches, revealing the undercurrent of power struggles simmering beneath the surface.

The duel commences, but Deim is quickly overcome by a sudden, agonizing pain, accusing Karnis of poisoning him. Karnis, triumphant, brings down his axe, brutally killing Deim. From Deim's lifeless body, a black orb emerges, transforming into a terrifying eyeball before vanishing into the ground. Moments later, Karnis himself begins to mutate into a grotesque monster, his body writhing as eyeballs sprout from his limbs, horrifying the screaming crowd.

In the chaos, Johnny and Edo make the ultimate sacrifice to save Sera, urging her to run while they buy her time. Johnny is lost to the churning river, and Edo, with a final comforting message to Sera, disappears into the monster-filled fog, a beam of light his last act of defiance. Sera is left distraught, burdened by guilt, her memories of her 'cool older brothers' erased by the trauma.
