Opening Tension
The episode begins in a charged atmosphere, with Kazuya Kinoshita poised to confess his feelings. Yet, a darker current runs beneath this hopeful intention. Mami Nanami looms, her discovery of Chizuru Ichinose's rental girlfriend secret a ticking bomb. The visual shifts between Kazuya’s earnestness and Mami’s cool, predatory watch establish the episode's central conflict. Their carefully constructed falsehood is about to shatter under Mami’s deliberate pressure.
Mami's Childhood Trauma
A flashback to Mami's past shows a wealthy, controlling father who views his daughter as a commodity. He discards her beloved stuffed bear, lecturing her on "dignity" over "childish things." This act of emotional violence, captured in Mami’s tear-filled eyes, defines the coldness she would later embody. It is a stark lesson in detachment, taught with an unsentimental hand.
Mami's First Love
In a more innocent time, Mami finds genuine connection with Taro Urashima, a boy far from her father's social expectations. Their secret dates, filled with games and shared meals, reveal a girl capable of natural joy. Taro offers her a taste of freedom, a rebellion against the path laid out for her. Her smiles are real, reflecting a burgeoning hope that love could be her escape.
The Crushing of Love
Their young love deepens, culminating in Taro's heartfelt promise to earn her father's respect. Mami believes him, holding onto the hope that their bond is unbreakable. This optimism is brutally extinguished when her father discovers the relationship, revealing an arranged marriage to the powerful Hakuba family. He strikes her, physically asserting his control. Soon after, a cold text from Taro, claiming to have found someone else, shatters her utterly.
Mami's Bitter Conclusion
The aftermath shows Mami undergoing a chilling transformation. She concludes that love is nothing but a fragile lie, easily destroyed by power. Her internal monologue reveals a decision: if her own love was a farce, she will expose the lies in others' relationships. This deep-seated bitterness, born from a profound betrayal, now drives her manipulative pursuit of Kazuya and Chizuru. It is a desperate act of self-preservation, cloaked in aggression.
Mami's Calculated Confrontation
Back in the present, Mami engineers a private encounter with Chizuru by booking her through the rental girlfriend service. She leads a visibly apprehensive Chizuru to a secluded spot, her calm exterior hiding hostile intentions. Chizuru attempts to maintain her professional facade, but the immense pressure reveals her discomfort. The air between them crackles with unspoken accusations as Mami prepares to dismantle Chizuru's deception.
Ruka and Kuri's Awkward Meeting
While the main drama unfolds, Ruka Sarashina is left fuming at the resort pool, frustrated by Kazuya's absence. Her solitude is broken by Kuribayashi, Kazuya's friend, whose past rental girlfriend mishap echoes their current dilemma. Their interaction is intensely awkward, Ruka wary of him disrupting her plans. Kuri, however, offers a sincere apology for his past actions, revealing a surprising maturity. He leaves Ruka to ponder her increasingly desperate situation, a foil to his own newfound peace.
Mami's Relentless Pressure
Mami continues her relentless psychological assault on Chizuru, probing specifically about Kazuya's grandmother, Nagomi. Mami senses that Nagomi's genuine affection is the lynchpin of the lie, the most painful point of leverage. She questions Chizuru's guilt, pushing past the professional deflection. Chizuru's mask begins to crack under this precise and insightful attack. The scene emphasizes the moral weight of Chizuru's deception.
Ruka's Frustration
Alone again, Ruka's frustration boils over into jealous anger. She feels utterly excluded, convinced that everyone else is progressing while she is sidelined. Her isolation is starkly portrayed through her internal monologue. Ruka desperately yearns to be Kazuya's "real" girlfriend, feeling the odds stacked against her, her time at the resort ticking away without resolution.
The Weight of the Ring
The confrontation escalates inside a resort room as Mami spotlights the heirloom ring Nagomi gave Chizuru. Mami scoffs at its design, then derides its meaning as a symbol of familial trust. She accuses Chizuru of heartlessness, accepting such a gift while maintaining a sham relationship. Mami calls the entire situation a cruel exploitation of a grandmother's love. Chizuru, now visibly pale, is cornered by Mami's biting accusations, trapped by the claustrophobic truth.
Chizuru's Fierce Defense
Pushed past her limits, Chizuru finally snaps, demanding that Mami retract her insults towards Kazuya and his family. She passionately defends Kazuya’s character, insisting he is sincere and has attempted honesty multiple times. Chizuru takes full responsibility for her own part in the lie. Yet, she refuses to let Mami diminish Kazuya’s kindness or the genuine affection he holds for his family. This raw, emotional outburst shows Chizuru dropping her professional persona completely.
Chizuru's Desperate Plea
Understanding that anger is futile, Chizuru makes a desperate, humbling move. She bows deeply, dropping to her knees in a formal apology. Chizuru pleads with Mami to maintain the secret for Nagomi's sake, prioritizing the grandmother's health and happiness. She sheds all pride, begging Mami to protect the family she has grown to cherish, despite the lies. Mami observes the prostrate Chizuru with a cold, unreadable expression. Meanwhile, Kazuya sits unaware, oblivious to the high-stakes emotional battle just floors away.
EPISODE REVIEWS

The episode jumps straight into the awkward situation created by Mami showing up again. The comedy is still very Kazuya.
