Cutting the episode count could have focused the story on the main conflict. A shorter 12 or 13 episode run would have removed the extra characters who did not help in the climax. This would keep the energy high from start to finish. Instead of a slow drama that gets lost in the middle, the series would be lean and intense. Every moment would actually matter for the final payoff. If you lack patience, this series can be a real struggle to finish.
