Synopsis
Perpetually distracted by women, brash sword-swinging warrior Rance takes odd jobs across a fantasy continent mostly because it gives him excuses to meet them. Traveling with his loyal slave Sill Plain, he's basically a walking disaster who somehow keeps saving the day by accident. The story kicks off when the two are hired to track down a missing noble girl in the Kingdom of Leazas, and what starts as a simple missing persons case slowly unravels into something bigger lurking beneath the kingdom's surface. Along the way, there are side quests, a kidnapped barmaid, an undead outbreak, that keep things moving between the larger mystery. It's a 4-episode OVA adapted from a classic adult visual novel series, so the episodic pacing feels intentional rather than padded. The tone bounces between low-stakes adventure humor and genuinely mature content, so go in knowing what you're signing up for. If you've watched things like La Blue Girl or Bible Black and appreciated fantasy settings with adult content woven into an actual plot, this scratches a similar itch. What makes it work better than most in the genre is that Rance and Sill have a weird, watchable dynamic, he's insufferable in a specific way that the story leans into rather than glosses over. The world has some genuine lore behind it, which makes sense given its visual novel roots. It's not trying to be high art, but it has more structure than you'd expect.
