Episode Context

Coming directly after Ash's crushing defeat at the Snowbelle Gym, this episode serves as the critical emotional turning point past the halfway mark of XY&Z's 47-episode run. It bridges the gap between failure and recovery, exploring the internal work Ash must do before he can challenge the gym again and ultimately head into the Kalos League. This is setup done right, everything that follows in the season's back half, including the Ash-Greninja dynamic's evolution, is rooted in what happens here.
