Roy using Lucario to protect the eggs was great and it shows how much more responsible he is getting as a trainer lately instead of just jumping into fights without thinking about the stakes involved

Ugh, I was so pumped for the Mega Evolution battle in 'Mega Voltage,' but it just zipped by way too fast! Honestly, it left me feeling like the whole arc was just a placeholder when the main event ended without any real back-and-forth action, forth action.

Dot deciding to go meet the others in person is a big step for her and it makes me happy to see her moving past the remote work and taking a more active role in the journey

The return of Rayquaza felt a little quiet after a year of waiting, but it makes sense that the dragon needs to sleep and recover its strength after everything it went through at Laqua

I think Liko really showed her growth when she put Ult in his place for being so reckless and selfish and I liked how Roy finally realized Rayquaza needed its space to heal instead of fighting

Ult having to actually listen to Liko after being so full of himself for the whole trip was a great way to handle his attitude problem and it forced him to finally cooperate with the group

The battle with the Wriggling Gang was a bit of a mess and using Mega Evolution there felt like overkill for such a short fight, I expected more from Roy and Ult since they finally had to work together but it ended so fast that the tension just vanished, at least seeing Rayquaza again was cool even if the dragon was just resting

I was hoping for a bigger moment with the black Rayquaza so finding it just asleep in a shrine felt like a bit of a slow way to bring it back after such a long absence

That Wriggling Gang dude totally threw me off, honestly, his antics were so bizarre that I kept giggling through the whole serious dragon shrine and egg protection stuff. It felt so out of place yet completely hilarious, and I just loved that unexpected comedic relief amidst the tension.

I felt like the Mega Evolution with Lucario and Sableye was a bit much since those Wriggling Gang guys were already losing and the fight ended way too fast for all that buildup

Team Dragon Rampage being composed entirely of women was a cool twist and it was fun to see that get under the skin of someone as prideful as Ult who didn't see it coming at all

The way Ult looked so confused when the dragon riders took off their masks was hilarious after he spent the whole time being so arrogant and treating everyone like they were below him

Team Dragon Rampage being the ones to guard the legendary dragon in secret was a cool addition to the world even if the episode felt a bit slow

It is hard to get excited about the Rayquaza return when the scenes are so brief, and the battles felt like they were over in a couple of seconds today

I actually really liked how Liko did not give up on Ult even when he was being a massive pain, and seeing him finally give in and work with Roy to get that win made the slow parts worth it for me, especially since the Rayquaza stuff was a bit quiet while it rests near Blackthorn City for now

Ult and Roy winning together actually felt like a real step forward for his character since he usually tries to do everything by himself

The Wriggle representative was so weird and funny during the standoff and it helped break up the tension while Ult was brooding in the corner

My interest dropped when Rayquaza just showed up at a hidden shrine near Blackthorn City without a big fight or some crazy event happening

Those mega evolution battles were way too short and they ended before things even got interesting which is a shame for this part of the arc

That dragon biker gang being made of only women was a funny twist and it made Ult look so confused during the whole meeting

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off 'The Strong Sphere,' which tested the protagonists against powerful Pokémon-related challenges, episode 96 pivots the narrative squarely toward the Black Rayquaza mystery that has been building in the background. The introduction of the Dragon Riders faction and the Blackthorn City setting expand the scope of the quest significantly. This episode functions as a launchpad for a stretch of episodes focused on legendary Pokémon encounters and the deeper lore surrounding them.
