Oyako Rankan The Animation
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After a devastating fire took everything from them, siblings Mamoru and Kotone were taken in by the prestigious Kamishiro family — Kotone as the heiress, Mamoru as the household's devoted butler. On the surface, it's a warm setup: a loving adoptive mother named Saya, a stepsister named Ririko, and life in a secluded, elegant village that feels almost too peaceful. Then you find out the family has a secret ritual called 'the Feast,' and that peaceful vibe evaporates fast. Don't go in expecting a slow-burn drama — this is a single-episode OVA from 2013 based on a visual novel, and it wastes no time establishing that the Kamishiro household's beauty and refinement hide something much darker underneath. The tension between Mamoru's protective instincts and the family's deeply entrenched traditions is what drives the whole thing, and it creates a genuinely uncomfortable moral conflict in a short runtime. If you've seen something like Discipline: The Record of a Crusade or Bible Black and appreciated how that kind of story builds dread through household power dynamics and hidden rituals, this scratches a similar itch. It's not a long commitment, and the animation from Office TakeOut holds up reasonably well for the format. Just go in knowing the subject matter is heavy and the traditional setting is very much a contrast device, not decoration.
