Otaku no Boku ga Ichigun Gal to Tsukiaerumade no Hanashi

Quietly passionate about anime and convinced that Ruka Ayase — the most popular girl in his class — exists in a completely different social universe from him, Tomohiko Suzuki does something small but unexpectedly brave: he changes his hair, hoping she'll notice. She doesn't, at least not right away. But her circle of stylish, outgoing gal friends does, and suddenly Tomohiko finds himself with a nickname — 'Itchom' — and an invitation into a world he never thought he'd belong to. That's the setup, and the show lets it breathe from there. It's a high school romance-comedy adapted from manga, built around the tension between otaku culture and the flashier social scene of the gals, and how those worlds turn out to be less incompatible than either side assumed. The tone is warm and a little goofy without leaning into cringe comedy, and Tomohiko's internal monologue gives it some genuine heart. If you liked My Girlfriend is a Gal's premise but wanted something with more focus on the otaku side of the equation, or if Wotakoi's nerdy-romance energy appealed to you, this sits comfortably in that same space. It's not trying to reinvent anything — it's just a grounded, likable story about a shy guy figuring out where he fits.
